SHOWING GOOD EXAMPLES TO CHILDREN AS PARENTS IN PREVENTING ADDICTION

Substances which induce addiction, alongside acts which are addictive, are usually easily accessible to children. Parents have a big role to play when it comes to the decision of a child to be addicted or not.

Hence, parents need to continue telling their children about the ills of addiction, and why they should not take part in such acts or take those substances.

Alcohol and drugs are top substances which children get easily addicted to, and common acts which some of them are addicted to are social media and video games. If this obsessive interest is not curbed early, it would be difficult to stop when it becomes an addiction.

Looking at how a child could access alcohol and drugs, it happens most times in their school. When they go for parties, these substances are provided and there are no restrictions to the amount you can take in.

Therefore, children are often compelled or motivated by their mates to have a taste of what they are. Not wanting to be left behind, these innocent children bow to peer pressure.

Parents need to be concerned about what their children are exposed to on a daily basis, they should also take interest in the type of friends they keep.

When it comes to being addicted either to the social media or to video games, it can be easily detected by parents.

All they need do is, monitor the amount of time their child spends on either the social media and video games.

If they spend long hours on either of those, not minding if they sleep or have their meal, then there is a likely chance that they are addicted. Hence, it is the responsibility of parents to ensure they cut down on the number of hours spent surfing the social media or playing video games.

Parents need to set themselves as a good example to their children.

For instance, if you do not want your child to take alcohol or drugs, you should not be found with either of them. This is based on the fact that; children are likely to take part in what they see their parents do.
